A Message From GITA's President
"Thanks!" to all those who have remained members of GITA through this
transition period. We are immensely proud of our many accomplishments.
Significant successes include:
1. Establishing a
partnership with PennWell
for the upcoming Oil and Gas
Pipeline Conference October 28-30 at the Royal Sonesta
Hotel in Houston, TX. Please join us for the meeting!
2. We are financially
"in the black” for the first time in nearly three years!!!
3. Our membership base has
increased at a rate of approximately 15% a month during the past 6 months!!!
4. Nearly 400 GIT
professionals have participated in our GITA Webinar Series.
To meet demand, we are working to increase the frequency of presentations – we
5. Our chapters are
starting to take off again – check out the Pacific Northwest "More Than Just A Map” conference
which starts on 30 September. The Mid-Atlantic "ENERGIS” conference was a sellout!!!
Bigger and better things
are on the immediate horizon, namely the release of our GITA Knowledge Portal
which will provide unfettered access to all of GITA’s papers, workshop
materials, webinars and more. This exciting new service will permit GITA
members to request a "Report Card” which lists their professional education
activities during the course of the year. The "Report Card” may then, in
turn, be used to support application for your GISP, serve as a record of
professional development activities for annual performance reviews, and
similar. The system is in Beta testing now and we hope to have it live by
the end of the year.
Also on the agenda are
several efforts to help re-vitalize our chapters and the much anticipated
Thought Leader Blogs. This includes a grant process for providing
chapters with event seed money, scholarship funds, and social networking
support. Stay tuned for more information as we work out the kinks.
The Thought Leader Blogs will feature entries from GITA members participating
in GISCI, NGAC, FGDC, and other important representative positions.
Our continued success
relies heavily upon you, the member. Please share your needs with us and
we will do our very best to see that they are met. We sincerely
appreciate those who have stayed with us through our transition and welcome our
burgeoning group of new members. We shall endeavor to serve you well!
