GIS and its Application to the Gathering Industry Robert Brook, ESRI; Andrew Norris, Eagle Rock Energy Partners; Michael Harris, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation; Darrell Clarke, DCP Midstream; Jeff Allen, Coler & Colantonio Inc.
Gathering pipeline operators are facing many challenges. Operators are looking for ways to effectively collect data and document their existing infrastructure. They are struggling with the requirements of the recent integrity management rules for gathering and low stress pipelines and figuring out how to effectively satisfy them. Gathering operators are also looking for answers to the ever-growing questions about effective data management, analysis, and reporting. To top it off they are looking for information about how to satisfy these complex questions within an existing and restrictive budgetary framework. This seminar will focus on the fundamental questions of what has to be done, and how it should be done. Industry experts and seasoned veterans will provide valuable insights about how to meet industry challenges.
Distribution and Integrity Management Program (DIMP)—Regulations and Implications for Your Organization Bob Naper, Energy Experts International; Ed Sweet, EBS Consulting; Mark Warner, Questar Corporation;
Mark Clayton, CenterPoint Energy, Jim Anderson, PHMSA
With the new Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) legislation from the Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) enacted this summer, this seminar will likely be the first chance for distribution companies to learn directly from industry experts how DIMP may affect their organizations. Topics and case studies presented will range from the origins and details of the legislation to preparing for and implementing a DIMP – and suggested change management processes to manage risks and ensure success. Attendees will have opportunities to engage in conversation with the panel and ask questions of this distinguished group of utilities, consultants, and administrators who have a variety of experiences developing and managing a DIMP.

Emerging Technologies: The Future of GIS Usage in Oil & Gas Dal Hunter, ESRI; Michael Baker, Intergraph Corporation; Jeremy Knudson, Adapx; Jarle Nerland, First Interactive; Chad Zamarin, Colonial Pipeline
Staying aware of new spatial technologies and applying these technologies to your business model are challenges we all face. This seminar offers the opportunity to take on these challenges in one forum. Anyone involved in the design and implementation of solutions to everyday problems in the oil and gas industry should attend this seminar, which will hit on a broad range of topics feature an extended question and answer session in a panel setting. The seminar will also include a technical presentation on an up-and-coming technology and presentations on the way two geospatial vendor companies are integrating new technologies, such as Google Earth and Microsoft Maps Live, into their solutions. Attendees will hear first-hand how one distribution and one pipeline transmission operating company are integrating these and other technologies into their business practices.
Utilizing GIS to Manage Your Assets Nicolas Guerrero, Jr., Spectra Energy; Ron Brush, New Century Software; Gary Bridges, Centerpoint Energy; Fred Spickler, Global Information Systems, LLC
Asset management has emerged as one of the most daunting challenges facing companies across today’s pipeline and utilities landscape. This seminar will identify some of the key components to asset management, showcasing various vendor and operator solutions managing such issues as aging infrastructure, process management, and management of change. Visionaries from both distribution and transmission disciplines as well as knowledgeable persons from the vendor arena will highlight the role geospatial technologies play in developing an effective enterprise asset management plan. The seminar will include an interactive panel-style discussion during which the audience will be given an extended opportunity to ask questions and hear answers that are relevant to their business.
GIS for Risk and Integrity Management Floyd Belcher, PAPSOQ; Lucas Hutmacher, Willbros Engineers/EPC; Jake Haase, Colonial Pipeline, Inc.; Tony Sileo, Opvantek, Inc.; Hart Smalley, Mears Group Inc.; Cary Windler, CenterPoint Energy
This seminar is designed for geospatial professionals and risk and integrity personnel who work together to prepare and manage the IMP. The seminar will open with a discussion of direct assessment methods and where they apply, along with each method’s data collection and storage requirements. As more and more DA methods are becoming employed, it is necessary for all involved to understand this data and the issues surrounding its use. Industry experts will discuss the new integrity rule that gathering operators are dealing with, which distribution operators will soon have to deal with as well. A liquid and a gas transmission rule expert will discuss the future proposed rulemakings that are currently in review, reassessment interval possibilities, and PHMSA protocol audit findings regarding documentation and the role of GIS. The seminar will conclude with a panel style discussion of the best practices of data’s roles in providing answers for risk, integrity, and audits.
Competing in the ROI Game Ted Eynon, MapFrame Corporation;
Robert McElroy, New Century Software, Inc.;
Craig Wilder, Willbros Engineers/EPC; Nancy Lerner, EMA, Inc.
Geospatial information technology (GIT) implementations can take a significant amount of time and be quite costly, with real benefits hard to quantify. Yet geospatial projects must compete for approval against a multitude of other funding opportunities within the organization. How do you effectively validate the GIT business case, determine Return on Investment (ROI), and position your implementation for success? This seminar will provide a broad overview of ROI from various perspectives and real-world experiences. Discussion will include measuring and quantifying anticipated results, securing funding, obtaining executive sponsorship, and leveraging the investment. ROI will be discussed in conjunction with initial project implementations, as well as assessing and validating the actual benefits of systems which have been implemented.
