Migration of Desktop Applications to Server-based ResGIS/LVVWD
Track: Public Sector
Frank Chang, Las Vegas Valley Water District

Learning Objectives:

  • Migrate legacy applications to modern technology.
  • Save time and money in development and maintenance.
  • Expand user bases and improve user’s experience.

As the magnitude of collected data and the demands for additional functions increased, it became difficult to manage and maintain the stand-alone legacy applications. Server-based ResGIS improves access to spatial data and expands the user base. It reduces cost and saves time by eliminating duplicated binaries and deploying reusable modules. It demonstrates better future expansion capability with added templates, and reduced errors because less human manipulations are involved. Therefore a better decision-making process is ensured.

Case Study: Integrating GIS and Work Management
Track: Enterprise Architecture & System Integration
Samuel Newman, Cobb EMC

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an architectural understanding of how to integrate WMS with other systems.
  • See the benefits of integrating WMS with GIS, CIS, and ERP.
  • Understand the challenges facing integration of WMS, GIS, CIS, and ERP.

The power of a work management system can be enhanced upon integration with GIS and ERP systems. Work management by itself improves work order management capabilities. By integrating work management with ERP, and particularly GIS, a company realizes a more complete solution that can create a work order, design a job for the work order, requisition assets for the work order, manage charges for the work order, and finally unitize the assets.

Quantitative Spatial Data Quality: Assessing Fitness to Enable Spatial Data Sharing
Track: Enterprise Architecture & System Integration
Graham Stickler, 1Spatial Group Limited

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the data quality issues that hamper spatial data sharing.
  • Appreciate the work on standards to facilitate sharing.
  • Discover how new standards and technology can help.
There are vast amounts of spatially based data across organizations in both GIS and CAD that are being fed at an unprecedented rate and represent a huge investment. Using real-world examples, this presentation will show the data quality issues that can hamper both reuse and sharing of these spatial data and explain how advances in geospatial standards and IT can now allow for quantitative measure and communication of data quality

Intelligent Geospatial Information Systems as a Platform for Enterprise Integration
Track: Enterprise Architecture & System Integration
Dr. William Shepard, Enspiria Solutions, Inc.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover added benefits available from an intelligent GIS.
  • Understand the design and implementation of an intelligent GIS platform.
  • Integrate with enterprise systems, including CIS and MDMS/AMI.

Many utilities have realized tremendous benefits from implementing AM/FM systems to streamline maintenance of mapping products. Many of these systems are implemented in CAD environments or first generation GIS, which are not extensible. Implementing an intelligent GIS provides a next-generation platform for realizing additional benefits. Intelligent GIS can be leveraged for tasks from network analysis to outage management and mobile workforce management, and also integrated across the enterprise (for example, with CIS and MDMS/AMI).
