Narrative: East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) supplies high-quality drinking water to 1.3 million customers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. We maintain over 4,100 miles of water distribution system piping, 340 facilities, and hundreds of thousands of appurtenances within our service area. Much has changed from the days of keeping track of the distribution system using pen and paper. We will share the transition and challenges of adding digital intelligence to historic paper maps, the never-ending race to keep up with technology, and a growing thirst for access to information at one’s fingertips.
Bio: East Bay Municipal Utility District is well known in the geospatial community for its inventive and forward thinking GIS efforts. Additionally, in 2012, a very well attended and dynamic GITA Geospatial Enabling Community Collaboration event was hosted by EBMUD. The presenters for this event represent the very best of that operational experience and contributions to GITA.
