In September 2013, hundreds of Geomatics professionals will gather in Edmonton to network, share, and learn! There are many ways to participate: Present a paper, conduct a workshop, exhibit at the tradeshow, sponsor, submit a map/app, volunteer, or simply attend!
Don’t miss out on the exciting theme for GeoAlberta 2013:
Geomatics: The art, science, and technologies that use an integrated approach of measurement, analysis, management, storage and display of the descriptions and location of Earth-based data. Who are the professionals and what disciplines describe the profession?
Historically the term was developed to include Surveying, Remote Sensing, Cartography, & GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Today however, Geomatics is a rapid growth industry with strong influences from advancing and emerging technologies, allowing for increased use of Geomatics related data and infrastructure by many outside the Geomatics Community.
One thing remains constant amongst all Geomatics professionals and disciplines that measure it, map it, photograph and analyze it – The Earth. This could be the reason that "Geo” meaning "The Earth” is the beginning of Geomatics. GeoAlberta 2013 will focus on "Where Geo Matters” to showcase current technology, trends, and exchange commonalities within our industries and the planet we share.
