Narrative: The number of mobile devices in circulation has now surpassed the world’s population. A rapid acceleration in iOS, Android and Windows 8 consumer device up-take has resulted in tablets becoming popular for Utility and Telco field use. MIL-STD-810 certified cases transform consumer class tablets into fully ruggedised, yet lightweight tablets at 10% of the legacy ruggedized laptop cost. The new benchmark requirements for Mobile GIS are data interoperability, hosting flexibility, client choice and on-/off-line omnipresence. Mobile GIS are not "just mapping” anymore - complex business use cases require a powerful geo-centric mobile integration platform to any other enterprise information system such as ERP/CIS/OMS/DMS/SmartGrid/B2B - enabling the Spatial Enterprise. The presentation concentrates on educational business and technology benefits over commercial considerations.
