    The New York/New Jersey chapter held its formation meetings on May 15, 2003, December 16, 2003, and January 27, 2004 at Parsons Brinckerhoff in New York City, New York.

The original meeting was held on May 15, 2003 where preparations to establish a new group were initiated.  Then, on December 16, 2003 the original group met again to secure the required votes to form a local chapter.  At the meeting a steering committee was also formed to further facilitate the organization of the new chapter.  On January 27, 3004 the first chapter meeting was held at Parsons Brinckerhoff.  This chapter does and will continue to attract geospatial technology prefessionals in New York and New Jersey.

Since these initial meetings the New York/New Jersey chapter has held a number of workshops and events in the region, covering a full range of topics by geospatial professionals from various industry sectors.  Some of these events are now highlighted in the Past Events section.

During the 2005 Regional Chapter Forum held during Conference 28 in Denver, CO, the New York/New Jersey chapter was presented with an award for their efforts in chapter events and publicity/communication.
