Past Events:
The CA/NV Chapter has organized and hosted periodic conference events, generally alternating between Northern California, Southern California, and Nevada. Economic realities and competition for travel and conference funds have caused our recent adjustment to biennial conferences, holding them every other November. Our last conference was held in November 2008 at the Las Vegas Valley Water District in Nevada. Some details about that conference can be found here. The conference previous to that was held in November 2006 at the Orange County Sanitation District in Fountain, Valley, California. You can read about that event here.
We are presently in the planning stages of our next event. Want to help? Please see the note at the bottom of this page! If you would like to consider making a presentation or showcase your product or service – please let us know. We’ve had some excellent educational breakthroughs and leading technology demonstrated to us at past conferences, so if that’s you – bring it along and give the rest of us a look.
Also – please remember that and we nearly always are able to arrange a fascinating tour or “inside” look at the host facility for our conference (see the 2006 and 2008 Newsletters for details). This is an unforgettable way to see geospatial technology applied to real, practical, infrastructure issues. If you are a GIS Manager or Engineer perhaps and work at a facility that may possibly show small groups of geo-professionals a tour or brief demonstration, please let us know. Our Chapter and our membership would be very interested - and grateful. We’ve been to and seen many interesting and educational work underway and the experience is always mutually rewarding and beneficial. Some examples of suitable facility site locations would include a public utility, an airport or large transportation/distribution center, a municipal planning and/or engineering office, a large public works project or development, a refinery, or an emergency/response center. Please consider hosting our group if you can – just drop us a line expressing your interest or idea and we’ll get right on it!
Registration:
Online registration is now closed. A registration link will re-open here when registrations are being taken for the next event. If an event is imminent or is already underway, then please register onsite.
General Information
For our Members: The California/Nevada Chapter strives to serve you, the GITA member, the best that we can. We live in a thriving, dynamic two-state region with some of the best GIS minds and talent in the world. California/Nevada GITA counts on the strength of its members to help shape our industry and discipline. We welcome your input and participation as we further improve our services and collaborate with our very geographically-minded and diverse membership. Our Chapter’s goal is to assist, guide, and fully represent your interests in GITA International and our local professional geospatial community. Help us do so by sending us your comments, suggestions, links, and ideas. Have a new winning application? Did you win an award or other recognition? Heard about a cool data depository or participate in a geospatial blog? We'd love to hear from you! Send us screen shots, photos, or brief articles and – maybe we can run your photo or help spread the word. Feel free to contact any Chapter officer above or for general inquiries and submissions, simply write to: CANVGITA@cox.net.
We’re Looking for Speakers and Sponsors!: Our many previous California/Nevada Chapter Conferences have been outstanding learning, and networking experiences and get better each time. We are ALWAYS looking to add to our pool of speakers to make presentations and sponsors that would like a chance to exhibit their products and services to their CA/NV GIS friends and colleagues. Please send us a quick note if you have a topic you'd like to share or perhaps demonstrate some technology to our members. Likewise, please let us know if you have a product or service you'd like to introduce to our members at one of our events, in our newsletter, or to support the chapter in another way. Our goal is to continually improve our outreach and our service to our valuable members. Help us help each other—get involved! For more information, contact Chapter President J. Russ Coffey at (702) 259-8199 or e-mail at russ.coffey@lvvwd.com.
